Can you expand on why your business is so essential to the community?

"Not all women get to take their time to recover from the most miraculous yet traumatic process known to existence, birth."

My business was inspired by own personal experience and noticing that not all women get to take their time to recover from the most miraculous yet traumatic process known to existence, birth. After studying the alarming maternal and infant mortality rates in Georgia, among African-Americans in particular, I focused my work as a doula on the postpartum period. Mothers are leaders in our families and expected to be present for all of the lives, including hers, that live in her home. Therefore, she needs to be healthy every time she gives birth. So I not only serve mothers, but I serve families because I understand that it still takes a village.

Can you elaborate on the types of support you provide for new mothers?

"I offer my Moms emotional, physical, and nutritional support from prenatal to postpartum care."

I offer my Moms emotional, physical, and nutritional support from prenatal to postpartum care. During the labor process, I make sure Mom's needs are met and that she is advocated for hospital. The postpartum plan is prepared before the birth so it can be tailored to the family's needs and I educate the whole family on the postpartum period. On the day after Mom gets home, I am there with meals for the whole family, therapeutic treatments, including belly binding, and care for the newborn. Within this period I keep a close eye on Mom and when I am not present, she can reach me 24/7 via phone or text. I help Mom to feel adored and happy, as these are the supreme ingredients for health; whatever it is you're healing from. As for Mom, this blissful state of being grows healthy happy families!

Your husband Tchass went through the program last year. Did he prepare you well for the experience?

"I feel so good when I get home Tuesday night and I am sure it inspires him to continue to be great."

My husband prepared me very well. He was so encouraging as the application deadline drew nearer. He would remind me often, until I finally made up my mind. He believed I was ready for this program even if I didn't. His own excitement and fulfillment with the program inspired me. The pointers I share are along the line of support. You heard the saying, "Go Far Together?" Teamwork has always been my slogan and I share with him how that model is very important with Start:ME. I feel so good when I get home Tuesday night and I am sure it inspires him to continue to be great. He always asked how my night went and encourages me to dialogue about it. As I grow he grows and vice versa.
